From 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on May 9, 2019, MARI organized the second training course on literature search and analysis. The course focused on “information retrieval strategies for multidisciplinary Chinese and English literature”. Professor Pengyun Li of the Library shared his experience in literature retrieval. The course was attended by students of MARI and some invited undergraduates.
Professor Pengyun Li elaborated on the process and strategy of literature retrieval in detail. He introduced the definition and the importance of information retrieval, and systematically explained how to use appropriate retrieval methods and tools according to own information needs, taking literature retrieval of specific research as an example. Professor Pengyun Li pointed out that when searching relevant literature, the search terms should be as comprehensive as possible, and the search scope can be adjusted through the transformation of synonyms, superordinates and subordinates, so as to meet one’s own information needs. Finally, he introduced how to use the existing retrieval tools to realize the visualization of literature data.
In the Q&A session, the students put forward questions they encountered in the process of literature retrieval based on their own research interests. Professor Pengyun Li demonstrated how to do literature retrieval by changing search terms on the spot. Students expressed that the course worked well. This course is the second part of MARI’s literature training. MARI will continue to carry out literature management and meta-analysis course (http://mari.hzau.edu.cn/info/1011/1622.htm).
