International Symposium on Social Simulation 2020
In the Era of "Big data, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing and IoT", social simulation has become a powerful tool for the study of complex social and economic phenomena. For example, simulation allows us to quickly understand the transmission patterns of COVID-19. Social simulation focuses on the nonlinear correlation and interaction in economic and social systems, as well as the interaction between socio-economic systems and ecosystems. Moreover, simulation is helpful for tackling interdisciplinary issues of complexity such as the interaction between the biophysical environment and individual economic behavior in agricultural systems and its impact on output.
International Symposium on Social Simulation (ISSS or IS3) aims to stimulate interactions between young scholars and students engaged in social simulation research, and to promote international cooperation. This year, the ISSS is hosted by the College of Economics and Management in Huazhong Agricultural University and the Agricultural Modeling and Simulation Committee, China Simulation Federation. The research fields such as agricultural economy, resources and environment, land use, urban planning, and behavioral economy will be discussed.

• Dr. Li An
Li An, professor of Geography at San Diego State University. Research focuses on understanding, envisioning, and planning complex human-environment systems (CHES) for improved sustainability, justice, and equality. Computational human-environment science, complexity theory, landscape ecology, geographic information science, data science, and other relevant domain knowledge (e.g., sociology, demography) leverage theoretical and methodological support toward this goal. The research approach features a digital, computerized methodology, including geo-visualization and representation, space-time analysis, and micro-level modeling and simulation.

• Dr. Wander Jager
Wander Jager, associate professor and managing director of the Groningen Center for Social Complexity Studies. Member of the editorial board of the Journal of Artificial Societies and Social Simulation. His research and teaching focuses on how interactions between people give rise to the emergence of collective behavior. In particular he is interested in the spreading of new technologies, opinion dynamics & polarization and the societal transition towards sustainability.
